Good friday canal walk

The Good Friday Canal Walk has been an annual ECHO tradition for nearly 30 years. The walk was established by Pat and Vivian Tortora as a way for the community to join in a Stations of the Cross activity while collecting donations in support of the KareDrew Haitian Children’s Foundation. This has been a beloved community event for ECHO that in recent years has concluded with fellowship and a lunch of grilled cheese!

In 2022, we reunited for the Canal Walk after a two-year hiatus, collecting donations of almost $600 for the Catholic Near East Welfare Association in support of Ukraine!

Our 2023 & 2024 Good Friday Canal Walk was a fundraiser for the newly established Dana Marcotte Scholarship Fund. This fund will help to defray the cost of ECHO weekends for future candidates. If you would like to donate, you may do so by clicking this link or by mailing a check payable to ECHO of Cape Cod to: ECHO Scholarship Fund, 9 Laura Lane, Bourne, MA 02532.

Youth StreetReach

This program, offered through the Cape Cod Council of Churches, gives teens and adults a chance to interact with our brothers and sisters who have or are still dealing with being homeless. Youth hear firsthand how each life's path may lead to unexpected circumstances and how a community of faith and love can change lives.

Youth StreetReach holds monthly Saturday breakfasts throughout the school year at the First Baptist Church (486 Main Street, Hyannis), with an end-of-year summer cookout at Sea Street Beach. Breakfast dates for 2023-2024: September 30, October 28, November 18, January 27, February 24, and March 23, and April 27.

How can you get involved in a breakfast?

  • Donate Time Come to help set up the night before a breakfast from 6-8 p.m.

  • Donate Talent Make a breakfast casserole that can be served to the guests.

  • Donate Compassion Come to a breakfast between 6:30 and 10:00 a.m. to spend time with the guests, help serve them a warm meal, and help them pick out a warm outfit.

  • Donate Stuff Drop off some much-needed warm clothes, toiletries, and socks on Friday night or Saturday morning.

For more information and to sign up to help, contact Marilyn Lariviere at mlariv@comcast.net or call/text 508-776-6059. Read more about them here Youth StreetReach.
